How I knew Colin

Colin was dearly loved in our family. He was so much more than a friend and work colleague. I first really got to know Colin when I started working with him in 2003 however he was already such an important part of our family long before then as even before I was born he and my Grandad were good friends. When my grandad passed away in 1982 Colin was always around for my Nan and Mum giving support and laughter throughout difficult times. Colin continued to be an integral part of my Mums life and as my sisters and I grew up we would always see him around. Eventually he and my Dad decided to work together on building jobs. I remember coming in from school seeing Colin talking to dad about work then suddenly stopping to turn and sing to me! My sister would have it worse as he would always sing ‘K K K Katie’ down the phone whenever he called. He would always ask if I had got any A levels today, even though I was still at primary school! When I would answer `no` his reply was always that he had many ‘Spirit Levels’! I only really understood that joke when I was a little older! But have used it myself on occasion! In 2003 I started working with Colin and my Dad on building jobs. Colin taught me so much from how to make the perfect cup of tea! To plastering and brickwork. Working with Colin and my Dad was one of the best jobs I’ve had and I have such happy memories of that time. Sadly my Dad passed away in 2008 and even though Colin had just lost Barbara he was there for our family making sure we all were ok – A true friend. I think that sums Colin up in my eyes, he was incredibly loyal and would always be around if you needed him. I can honestly say whenever I saw Colin or saw him talk to anyone they never went away without a smile on their face. His larger than life personality and sense of humour stuck with whoever met him. I will always smile when I think of him and think myself lucky how fortunate I was to know him. Thank you Colin for all you gave me (even the bad jokes!) I will never forget all the laughter and joy you gave me. Ian x
